Why do I need a Reverse Backing System?
Each year there are over 300,000 reported reverse accidents in the U.S. and that does not include the hundreds of thousands of accidents that are not reported, and that is were Eyes Behind You helps. As a matter of fact, according to the Department of Transportation, 27% of car accidents involve at least one vehicle in reverse. Annually, accidents in reverse cost insurance companies and individuals over 1.3 billion dollars. According to Kidsandcars.org, a non-profit organization focused on improving the safety of vehicles for cars, state that backup accidents killed 91 children in 2003, with 82% of these children under the age of four. This represented a 57% increase from 2002. And according to the Department of Transportation, 70% of all accidents can be avoided in vehicles that have a collision avoidance device. The Backup Sensors and Parking Sensors can help reduce these numbers.
How does it work?
The system is automatically activated when you engage reverse gear, so its like having Eyes Behind You to to help with Collision Avoidance. Small sensors are fixed to the rear of the vehicle, they send and receive ultrasonic radio waves which bounce off obstacles and alert you to their presence. There is an internal buzzer that gradually increases in frequency as you approach the object. A continuous tone denotes that you are within 0.35m (1ft) of the obstacle.
Do I need to drill any holes in my car?
No, not if you select the option for the Self Adhesive Sensors. However, if you want to recess the sensors into the rear bumper then you can select the Recessed Sensors that requires either a 20mm or 22mm hole to be drilled into the bumper. The recessed sensors can be colour coded (spray painted) to match the vehicle. Click here for Sensor Options.
Do I need any special tools?
You will need either a 20mm or 22mm Drill Bit and Polishing Head to fit the Recessed Sensors, we can supply a fitting kit which can be ordered with your Parking Sensor Kit. You will also need a drill, pliers and a screwdriver set.
